Evoloop® – The new brand name for our conventional High-Speed Steels range

Evoloop - brand name of Erasteel’s conventional High-Speed Steels

Just a few days ago, we were thrilled to announce that Erasteel had become the world’s first producer of High-Speed Steels to obtain EPD® (Environmental Product Declaration) certification, demonstrating its commitment to a more sustainable and transparent industry regarding its environmental footprint.

Now it’s time to unveil the new brand name for our low carbon footprint range of conventional High-Speed Steels: Evoloop®

Evoloop® symbolizes a virtuous loop that breathes new life into metals, an evolution towards more sustainable products, and a continuous progress for enhanced performance.

All this together with a low carbon footprint, from 2 to 4 times lower compared to the alternative solutions, and products made from over 91% recycled materials that are 100% recyclable. Combined with a high level of quality and performance, and a lifetime of tools up to 10 times longer than some standard steel solutions.

Make the difference with Evoloop® and experience the future of sustainable steel!

Erasteel becomes the first producer of High-Speed Steels in the world to obtain EPD® certification!

Claiming a low carbon footprint is good, proving it is even better…

Erasteel has reached an important milestone in its journey towards sustainability and is proud to announce its EPD® (Environmental Product Declaration) certification for both its conventional High-Speed Steels and its products from batteries and spent oil catalysts recycling. An EPD® project for Powder Metallurgical High-Speed Steels is also underway.

As the world’s first producer of High-Speed Steels to obtain EPD® certification, Erasteel is paving the way for a more sustainable steel industry.

Through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in compliance with the international ISO 14040/44 and ISO 14025 standards, these EPD® provide information on the environmental impact of our products ensuring transparency and accountability.

With Erasteel, sustainability and excellence go hand in hand. Thanks to its innovative approach, Erasteel has developed a range of products with a low carbon footprint while delivering exceptional performance and durability.

Erasteel’s ambition is clear: to become the European leader in the recycling of strategic metals and the world leader in the production of High-Speed Steels from 100% of recycled materials with the lowest carbon footprint. An ambition Erasteel is getting closer to as they are already made from more than 91% of recycled materials.

Let’s work together to preserve natural resources and shape a more sustainable future for industry!

3 New Erasteel entities in Asia!

We’re delighted to announce the establishment of three new Erasteel sales entities:

  • in Asia,
  • in Taiwan, Japan,
  • and South Korea!

Over the years, Erasteel has cultivated unique partnerships with major industry players in Asia. The establishment of these entities symbolizes Erasteel’s commitment to expanding its growth, reinforcing collaboration with its customers, and continue delivering even more high-performing and tailored solutions and services.

Erasteel’s recycling efficiency in 2022! +80%

+80% recycling efficiency for Erasteel’s batteries recycling activity in 2022!

Each year, Erasteel carries out a review of its recycling efficiency to answer to the European Battery Directive.

The results have just been released! In 2022, Erasteel recycled more than 80% of the content of the alkaline saline and NiMH batteries received.

A much higher result compared to the traditional alternative processes which on average achieve efficiency of around 50%.

Indeed, thanks to a pyrometallurgical process that is unique in the world, Erasteel, through this recycling activity simultaneously gives life to 3 products:

  • ferronickel to produce Stainless Steel
  • zinc oxide
  • manganese slag to produce manganese alloys for carbon steel

Erasteel is the only company in the world to offer ferronickel from recycling!

A second life is offered to these metals, which are reintroduced into European metallurgy companies’ manufacturing cycles.

We offer a very low carbon recycling solution and meet the demand for green steel and a circular economy approach.

Together, let’s contribute to the preservation of natural resources!

ERASTEEL RECYCLING relaunches its battery recycling campaigns!

The end of the year 2020 saw ERASTEEL RECYCLING re-launch recycling of alkaline batteries and NiMH batteries. After a few months of work to improve the process, the Erasteel Commentry site conducted battery recycling test campaigns.

These campaigns allowed us to further fine-tune equipment and to validate all the improvements made by our experts. Excellent results have been obtained in terms of the effectiveness of the recycling process, with more than 70% of all battery materials being recovered. This is much higher than those achieved by other traditional recycling processes (less than 60%)!

On the strength of these promising results, Erasteel intends to continue to ramp-up operations, with new campaigns of industrial production scheduled throughout 2021.

Thanks to its unique pyrometallurgical process for battery recycling, Erasteel is able to recover 3 materials simultaneously: ferronickel, zinc oxide and manganese slag. Erasteel is the only company in the world capable of providing recycled ferronickel!

But Erasteel’s recycling operations extend beyond batteries. Erasteel is also actively involved in the recycling of other materials such as catalysts from oil refineries and co-products from the metallurgy (oxides, scales, etc.) and chemical industries (metal hydroxides).

Thus, behind this expansion of its recycling operations lies Erasteel’s vision of becoming a European leader in the recycling of strategic metals (nickel, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium).

Valdi becomes “ERASTEEL RECYCLING”

As of 2021, the “Valdi” trademark will be replaced by “ERASTEEL RECYCLING”. Accordingly, all Erasteel’s recycling activities are now united under the “ERASTEEL RECYCLING” banner.

Behind this change, a strong ambition: to be a European leader in the recycling of strategic metals (nickel, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium). This involves 3 families of recycled materials: catalysts from oil refineries, batteries, and co-products from the metallurgy (oxides, scales, etc.) and chemical industries (metal hydroxides).

This recycling activity results in the recovery of several strategic metals that are then reused in the manufacture of new Erasteel products or those of other leading European metallurgy companies.

Since 2015, the Group has invested nearly €30 million to develop specific processes and dedicated equipment at the Erasteel Commentry site. This makes it a unique facility in Europe.

On the strength of these investments and its long-standing expertise, Erasteel is now able to provide a sustainable approach to optimizing raw material life cycles thanks to these more virtuous metallurgical solutions.

You too can join us in helping to protect these scarce resources!
